Arguments

I bet most of you, my handsome followers, have found yourself to be in a position to correct a friend or acquaintance. People make mistakes, and someone always corrects them. This however is not a good thing. Yes, you do feel good after shattering someone's self-esteem, but what are they thinking about you? What are their friends thinking about you?

There isn't really any point to win a pointless argument, all it will do is create resentment and anger towards the winner. So really, there is no way to win an argument. If people have opinions that you feel are wrong, think to yourself, "does it really matter"?

Even if you succeeded in proving them wrong, they would not ever thank you for correcting them, they would be mad at you for embarrasing them. People watching would not think highly of you either, they would see you as something of an asshole.

Example of an argument:
Person: Superman and batman lives in the same city.
You: I don't think so, but you might be right though. Why don't you look it up when you get home, then tell me later?

This way, he will realise his mistake, but he will not lose face.
My fantastic followers, you can now "win" arguments without losing friends. Enjoy the rest of your day, you deserve it. :)

  11. Don't stoop to that level. Keeping respect even if it's not returned will make you feel better in the end.

  13. i've had the same problem with friends and family that are similar to this. they would rather push that their idea is correct rather than lose face. i like to think of it as a disease of pride. sadly saying this, or even "it's ok to swallow your pride, people won't think less of you" leads them to view me in a light not so healthy to my status as an individual.

  35. Well said! I've come to realize this over the past month in my own life. Even if you win the battle, you lose the overall war. It's great to be well-versed in many things, but not great to gloat.

    Balance is key, basically.

I like your blog, because it makes me write about more interesting topics in comments.

  41. I have learned to catch myself before correcting people. I am definitely glad I did.

    SvarSlett
  42. Yeah I've learned to do this to avoid people getting pissed at me xD

    SvarSlett
  43. that is a good way to think about it, but being right is fun though

    SvarSlett
  44. awesome, i want to know more!

    SvarSlett
  45. I don't think so, but you might be right though.

  46. You need to use proper communication technique when you are going to correct someone. If you face your person and lock eyes, you ay give off the nonverbal that you are aggressive, and the person being corrected will turn defensive and even run the risk of arguing for a defensive mechanism.
